Steamboat Springs Expands Winter Air Service as Yampa Valley Regional Airport Grows

Steamboat Springs, Colorado, heads into the 2026/27 winter season with nonstop air service from 18 airports nationwide across six major airlines, providing direct winter access from major markets across the country. New this winter is nonstop service from Portland, Oregon (PDX), adding another West Coast connection to Steamboat’s extensive winter air network through Yampa Valley Regional Airport (HDN).

At the same time, Yampa Valley Regional Airport is undergoing the largest capital project in its history.

YVRA broke ground in June 2026 on the approximately $84 million West Terminal Expansion, which will add roughly 60,000 square feet of terminal space. Plans include four new gate areas and passenger boarding bridges, expanded baggage facilities, elevators and escalators, additional restrooms, and new dining and passenger areas.

Construction is expected to continue through the 2026/27 and 2027/28 winter seasons, with Yampa Valley Regional Airport remaining operational throughout the project. The expansion is expected to be completed in 2028.

The project represents the first phase of a broader three-phase terminal improvement plan—an investment designed to accommodate continued growth and improve the experience of getting to and from Steamboat Springs and the greater Yampa Valley.

What Does Improved Air Access Mean for Steamboat Real Estate?

For Steamboat real estate, continued investment in regional air access is worth watching.

Accessibility is one of many considerations for second-home buyers and prospective residents evaluating mountain communities, particularly for those who expect to travel regularly between Steamboat and other major markets. Expanded nonstop service and significant investment in Yampa Valley Regional Airport continue to strengthen Steamboat’s connections to the rest of the country while maintaining its location and character in Northwest Colorado.

The airport expansion also represents a significant long-term infrastructure investment for the Yampa Valley. While air service is only one component of the local real estate market, convenient access can be particularly relevant to second-home owners, remote professionals, investors and families considering a move to Steamboat Springs.
